Hey hey kids! We’re diving headfirst into Katya & Sam’s unforgettable Bighorn National Forest wedding. Bighorn National Forest is located in Wyoming with sprawling hills and steep mountain peaks. Picture this: a gloomy mid-September day in the stunning Bighorn National Forest, rain clouds playing peekaboo with the sun, and a moody af wedding day with even a hint of lightening!
Our story kicks off with Katya and her entourage of bridesmaids at the iconic Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, WY. This place is like a time machine to the Wild West, complete with vintage furniture, rustic wallpaper, and a bar that’s so cool it could give an iceberg brain freeze. It lives on the historical Main Street of Buffalo. Old timey buildings are all over the place with murals depicting another time, another place. It’s the kind of place where you half expect Men in Black to stroll in and challenge some random alien to a game of poker.
Note to self: get married the easy way
Now, let’s talk fashion, darlings. Katya, in a sheath dress adorned with jewels on the back, is giving off some serious wedding glam vibes. Here’s the thing. She sports a fab fur that not only makes her look amazing but also keeps her warm. Pro tip for all you winter wedding brides out there!
Fast forward a bit, and we find ourselves driving to Saint Christopher’s Chapel in Bighorn National Forest, all while the rain continues fall. It’s like a scene out of a romantic movie. The chapel is perched high in the mountains on a winding road, totally secluded. The ceremony was short, sweet, and intimate, with only their closest family and friends in attendance.
But wait, there’s more! Can we talk about the three dogs that stole the show? Throughout the day, we were like “dogs dogs dogs.” Lefty, Borris, and Zoe were the most well-behaved pups, sitting there looking pretty and adorable for their photos. It was dog heaven on Earth! If we could have all the dogs all the time, well, life would be complete. Dogs on elopement day are our favorite!
Can every elopement include fur babies, please?!
Borris, the dapper gentleman, even joined us for some adventure photos with Katya and Sam. Mother Nature decided to play a little prank on us with crazy fog, making our epic mountain locations no longer epic. But no worries, we pivoted on the run and found new spots that captured the mood and fall vibes perfectly. And remember Katya’s wish for photos with cows? We made that happen too! It was a field day of laughter, chasing fog, and even catching a lightning strike in our shots. It was basically the coolest thing we’ve ever seen in our lives!
As the day went on, they needed to get back to their dinner plans, but not before we got some rain-soaked shots with their favorite whiskey and custom whiskey glasses. Clear umbrella, a flash, and voilĂ , they were soaking in the moment, raindrops and all.
What else could you ask for in a Bighorn National Forest wedding?!
Dinner took place at the Cowboy Carousel Center, complete with first dances that included laughter, happy tears, and some dance moves that would make John Travolta proud. And because this day wasn’t magical enough, we wrapped it up with nighttime photos around downtown Buffalo. The Occidental Hotel marquee lights lit up the night, and it was just as romantic as it was during the day.
In the end, it was a full elopement day filled with love, laughter, DOGS, rain, and the kind of adventure that could only happen in Bighorn National Forest. Katy and Sam’s wedding was everything they dreamed of and more, and it’ll be a day they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. So here’s to love, laughter, and the occasional lightning strike on your wedding day!
