Alex & jack’s engagement session takes place in Bozeman, Montana at Belcrest Farms. Can I just say right off the bat, there are SO many adorable animals on the farm. Like seriously… SO DAMN MANY! There are sheep, highland cows, horses, chickens, goats, dogs, cats, everything you can think of. As soon as I see them, I ask Alex if we can have a photo with every single animal available? Is that something we can do? Alex, being my spirit animal, says YES! What else could I possibly want for Alex & Jack’s Bozeman engagement session?!
The day of their engagement session, it’s a little dreary and a lot moody with the cloud cover. I encourage Alex & Jack to have fun, cut lose, and run around. One of our secrets for the best photos is to create movement and genuine FUN with our couples! We laugh the entire time as they run around the farm. Mountains surround the farm, making for gorgeous views everywhere we turn.
Ok so now my favorite part: THE SHEEP!
We take some photos with the sheep, which is a life long dream of mine. The art behind the image is that the sheep are moving while the couple stands still. It’s a little bit of a “nerd alert” moment as a photographer because it requires mastering the camera’s technical boundaries. Any chance I get to pet a sheep and girl you KNOW I’m going to take! The sheep are so friendly! They run up and let me pet them! It is basically everything I ever want in my life and more.
Alex & jack as people are just the prettiest couple of all time. They’re so cute. Alex gets her hair and makeup done by Brittnee with Ethereal Hair & Makeup earlier in the day. Part of the wedding planning process we have with Wild Montana Wedding (yes, we’re planning/designing their wedding day too!) is to always schedule your hair/makeup trial right before your engagement session. That way, you can see how the makeup looks on camera and how it holds up during the day.
pro tip: hire a photographer who is also a wedding planner
Overall, it is a really really fun engagement session! Bozeman is one of my all time favorite Montana engagement session locations because the mountains are poppin the entire time. Everywhere you look there is a mountain view. We find a cute spot at the end of the night on top of the hill and I bring out the lanterns for twilight photos.
For the love, when hiring a Montana wedding photographer, make sure ythey know how to use a flash. It’s important in low light situations, but it also makes your photos really stand out and so much more fun. For their champagne pop, if I don’t back light that moment with a flash, you never see the champagne flying everywhere. The photos that I get are pure magic because you can see the champagne lit up. I can’t WAIt for their wedding day at Firelight Farm! Bring on 2024!!!
