Want to know how to have a micro wedding in Glacier National Park with your closest friends and family? One, decide you want to. Once you figure out what you want, the rest will follow. We love The Knot’s round-up on What Is a Micro-Wedding? How to Plan and Cost, especially if you’re wondering what is the average cost of a micro wedding. For the Honeybee way, we’re diving into how to have a micro wedding that’s adventure-based. Yes, you can have your [wedding] cake and eat it too.
In Summer 2025, we helped Mina and Robert plan how to have a micro wedding, and their adventure was INSANE! First off, Glacier National Park is next-level gorgeous. You can pretty much elope anywhere in it and have a great time. When planning your micro wedding, there are definitely more elements involved, such as seating, catering, and places to stay. Lake McDonald is great if you want to hang out with your peeps and get an adventure in. You can set up your base in Whitefish or Kalispell for the breweries and fancy eating spots, and still explore winding rivers and crystal clear lakes. For a summer micro wedding, this is also the most popular section of the park, so planning for “off” times is a MUST, which is why we highly recommend your base being close.
Back to Robert and Mina! This couple got freaking HITCHED at Apgar Theater. BTW we did all the research for you on how to have a micro wedding and small wedding venues in the park that fit your guest size.
Wedding Ceremony Locations in Glacier National Park – 2025 guide
Robert and Mina’s micro wedding included thirty friends and family members, which has been about the norm in our experience. Usually, fifteen or fewer can be considered a micro wedding. 50+ is a small wedding, but not micro.
The couple sweetly exchanged their vows in a gazebo right on the edge of the lake. Mina rocked a rimmed hat which was the coolest fucking thing. Also, her dress with florals is 10/10. Actually, Mina in general? Just a freaking gem of a human. Robert, too, was so sweet and totally in love. You can tell this couple is really meant to be together.
We love that for this outdoor wedding idea, the reception featured a charcuterie-style dessert board complete with macarons, cake, cupcakes, and all their favorite sweets. As foodies, we love it when couples do what they WANT. No more slices of cake only. Bring in the macaroons and the root beer floats and the S’mores!!! The wedding guests munched out on the Fish Creek picnic area, which is near the Fish Creek Campground. It was the best of the outdoors while also feeling fancy AF. AND nearby bathrooms. The things you need to think about.
As a Honeybee Couple through and through, they said peace out to their guests, let’s adventure!! Mina and Robert romped around, which is exactly what it sounds like. It’s us finding the perfect spot and doing whatever the fuck it takes to make it happen. Scrambling over rocks, wading through water, and doubling over in laughter while watching the squirrels scurrying around.
Some of our adventure locations included Seven Mile Pullout, Sprout Creek, and Apgar. At the very end of the night, we finished it off in the water at Belkin Bridge. It was a very well-rounded adventure and family sort of day! Mostly because they brought their pup kid- Maverick!
Plan a dog friendly elopement – top 6 tips!
He was such a good boy cruising around with us, and it was next-level special to have their whole little family together.
Photography for a micro wedding is more than taking photos; it’s telling the story of the day that the couple will always cherish. Robert and Mina first met at the beach (insert heart eyes and beach umbrellas here), and we got to recreate that for them.
Honeybee Photography isn’t a pose-and-click process. I’m your director, photographer, ultimate hype woman, bear spray holder, mountain guide, all of it!
Before their big day, I reviewed Mina and Robert’s initial questionnaire, which outlined what they liked to do, their love language, and all the other personal details, so I knew what they would want before setting foot at their wedding.
My goal is always to craft the story of who they were and what their wedding day felt like. I asked dear Robert, who is a freaking AUTHOR, if he was writing his and Mina’s love story as a book- what would be the cover? He said it would hands down be the day they met at the beach, so we freaking made that happen AGAIN.
Now, I didn’t have a beach in the middle of Montana, BUT the shores of Lake McDonald are pretty damn magical. There are also these epic mountains in the background. Obsessed. These photos will come back to them as homage to their introduction, and that is so incredibly special to be able to do that for them.
