Whether you need someone to help you plan the proposal so you know where to go, how to actually pop the question, or help putting together all the little details that will make the proposal special, you are in the right place! I am a surprise proposal photographer located in Montana! I travel worldwide for elopements but some of my favorite proposals happen in our own backyard of Montana.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the options in Montana for your proposal spot, I am here to help! Part of the Honeybee experience is keeping things simple and easy for each of my clients. I will send you a whole list of the spots or viewpoints that I think will “WOW” you! It’ll be a document FULL of gorgeous proposal spots, photos, and ideas!
Honeybee Weddings offers multiple proposal photography packages. You can customize if you’d like to propose in one destination and then go explore another location in full engagement bliss! It’s completely up to you and the proposal experience you want to have. For anywhere in Montana, I highly recommend 2 locations!
After the Yellowstone show blew up, Big Sky’s popularity skyrocketed. And for good reason. Big Sky is one of the most beautiful parts of Montana, perfect your proposal!
What your proposal could look like at Big Sky: Here’s one of our more unique marriage proposal ideas – a chair lift! What an exciting way to propose in Big Sky, Montana. You are on the chairlift together, having such an intentional time, totally distraction free. The views are unparalleled. The moment is so serene. You look in your partner’s eyes, very carefully pull the box out of your pocket. Ask them to be your fiancé!! They say yes, happy tears stream down, and we pop the bubbly at the top of the mountain!
We care SO much about our couples’ experience over any sort of rush and this is a beautiful way to inhale your time alone and have a story for the ages. Make a weekend out of it and stay at Big Sky Resort!
Where can I propose in Bozeman Montana? One of our favorites is Belcrest Farms. We had a Bozeman Engagement Session here and it was one of the best days ever. Can I just say right off the bat, there are SO many adorable animals on the farm. Like seriously… SO DAMN MANY! There are sheep, highland cows, horses, chickens, goats, dogs, cats, everything you can think of. If you and your almost fiance are animal lovers, this is an adorable spot for your proposal!
What your proposal could look like in Bozeman: Bozeman is one of my all time favorite proposal locations because the mountains are poppin the entire time. Everywhere you look there is a mountain view. You’ll walk hand in hand with your true love. Under the ‘guise of a picnic you’ll find a cute spot at top of the hill right before the day turns to dusk. You’ll take out the ring from the picnic basket, as you tell your person all your favorite things about them. They’ll be SHOCKED! EXCITED! MADLY IN LOVE!! After I capture the sweet moment and all the kisses, I’ll awkwardly introduce myself to your person and bring out lanterns for twilight photos!
Note when hiring a Montana proposal photographer to make sure they know how to use a flash. It’s important in low light situations, but it also makes your photos really stand out and so much more fun. For a champagne pop, if I don’t back light that moment with a flash, you never see the champagne flying everywhere! The photos that I get are pure magic because you can see the champagne lit up.
Another note is to propose in a way that feels authentic to you. For our couple Tara and Chris that meant on horseback! It is an activity that they enjoy together so it made it all the more special. To extend the joy of the proposal, they opted for a Montana engagement session with horses!
Polson is so much fun! You have the Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ IE Kerr Dam and the river below. It’s the perfect place to romp around and the Mission Mountains are POPPIN! After you propose this is another location where the lantern shots we can get are top notch. These photos are super fun and moody. If you can find a way to sneak in another outfit for your love, we can do a change and you can have amazing variety in your photos. Likely for a Montana proposal, your partner will be wearing casual clothes. If you want to also bring a formal outfit for you both (we can game plan how to do this) you’ll get two very different vibes on the same day!
GPN is a classic favorite. The streams, lakes, forests, furry friends, honestly, what’s not to love? This is also a great option if you want a gorgeous backdrop but aren’t a big hiker. One of the best Glacier National Park proposal spots is Jackson Bay. This is also the easiest glacier to see in the park and it is the 7th largest!
The 10 Mile Pullout features a large beach area for proposal with easily accessible views of Lake McDonald. It also has a GREAT view of Stanton Mountain. Our couple, Ryan & Brian, TBH MADE for each other, were married on the shores of Lake McDonald. It goes to show that an autumn proposal would be BEAUTIFUL here! Lake McDonald really has the best foliage of Glacier National Park. Northwest Montana is basically an autumn paradise. Even if it’s snowing!
What your proposal could look like at Jackson Bay: a walk on the beach, laughing your hearts out. Stopping right in front of the water and bending the knee to your forever partner. They say yes!!! I pop out from my super secret hiding spot and then we pop some bubbly. Epic magazine worthy photos follow.
You, your partner, and the vast expanse of raw, untamed beauty. That’s what we call a “relationship goal.” As far as Glacier National Park proposal spots go, our favorite region within GPN that’s got ‘epic’ written all over it is Many Glacier. We’re talking about HUGE mountains—so big that they make you question everything you know about elevation. Many Glacier is the crown jewel (aside from that ring in your pocket) of the park. It’s known for its stunning scenery, serene lakes, and wildlife that seems straight out of a National Geographic documentary. Taking photos in a national park can mean some additional hoops, but we can totally help with ALL of that!
What your proposal could look like at Many Glacier: As you explore the area together, the mountains loom large in the background. It provides the perfect backdrop for some seriously Instagrammable moments. You walk through the forest and stroll along the shores. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled patterns on the ground. You look at your favorite person ever and pull out that beautiful ring to ask them the biggest question of your lives. They obviously say yes to your gorgeous face and you are now fiancéd!!!!
When you are proposing here, you’re not just taking photos! You’re capturing a slice of one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. Check out this Many Glacier engagement session! If you’re looking for EVEN MORE GPN inspiration, we got you below.
Missoula is the second largest city and metropolitan area in Montana. However, it may be the most well known! Missoula is a great place to propose because there are options for every vibe you’re looking for. Also, we loooooove to take photos at more than one location and Missoula gives us the opportunity to do that with some many kinds of places close to each other.
We get asked, can you propose in public? Absolutely! Just make sure that’s something your soon to be fiancé would be comfortable with. Some people shy from the attention while others love it being a big deal!
What your proposal could look like in Downtown Missoula: You take your honey to a restaurant that holds a special place in your heart or a bar where you met! You order drinks to start. Your partner is surveying the area, completely unaware of your true intentions. You step out of your chair, take to a knee, and share loudly, “you are the best thing that’s ever walked into my life. I would be a fool to ever let you walk away. Will you make me the happiest person in this room and be my fiancé?” THE ROOM GOES WILD! I take all the photos and then go back to sipping on my fishbowl while you soak in the moment.
The nostalgia of these photos being in a place that matters to you both, will make it all the more special. After you’ve finished your meal (I never want a hangry couple) we’ll get an adorable cheersing photo! Then you are ready for an adventure and we explore downtown! We can take photos of the two of you playing fun games – pool, air hockey, darts, hell even beer pong, those make great photos. The reasoning? Because it’s you doing you. Having a great time being yourselves and forgetting that the camera is there. We also love to highlight Downtown Missoula artists and the incredible graffiti art. You’ll walk around Downtown, arm in arm, blissfully in love.
Maclay Flats is one of our favorites for proposal photos. We love that you can take photos right on the Bitterroot River and then we can capture some epic drone shots!
What your proposal could look like in Maclay Flats: You make your way through the thin trees that are oddly reminiscent of the early 2000’s emo boys in their skinny jeans. When you reach a large clearing, you’ll feel so small in the great big world. You tell your partner that life is infinite, and you can’t imagine living it without them being your fiance for even one more day. They’ll swoon. You’ll pull out a ring. They’ll jump in your arms. Magic will be made!!!
It’s not just about where you can go to propose, but with our carefully planned out timeline, there is a lot we can do with different lightning! We can capture wholesome photos by the river to send to grandma, but as day turns to dusk, out comes the FIRE!! We will get all the passionate photos as you can’t wait to get married and be one! Check out this Missoula Engagement Session at Maclay Flats.
