We’ve seen a rise in vow renewals and have put together a list of ideas for adventurous couples. Marriage isn’t a one-day wedding. It’s a lifelong promise. A wedding vow renewal ceremony is a ceremony in which a married couple renews or reaffirms their marriage vows. Vow renewals remind us of elopements. It’s usually a small ceremony and an opportunity to come together and share your love without the level of production as a full wedding would be. The possibilities are endless, but we’ve outlined unique vow renewal ideas to get you started! If you’re ready to plan an adventure vow renewal, contact Kelsey.

A couple can either reshare their original marriage vows or write new ones. We love it when couples share wedding vows about adventure and how important that is in their marriage. Once you know what you want to say, we’ll put together a location list for where you want to have your vow renewal. Whether you want to use this opportunity to be somewhere you’ve never been, a bucket list location, or share this commitment, somewhere that already holds a special place in your heart, Honeybee Weddings will plan accordingly.
We’re getting into all the adventure ideas, but if you have any more questions about vow renewals, check out our blog below.
If you’re dreaming of a destination vow renewal, there’s one place that keeps topping the list: Iceland. Kristina and Mason celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with an unforgettable Iceland vow renewal — complete with dramatic mountains, sparkling ice beaches, and family by their side.
The most important part of an adventurous couple’s vow renewal is, of course, the adventure! Wherever you choose to have your ceremony will only be one part of your day. I guarantee we will not stay in one spot; we’re going to see as much as we can! For example, after their vow renewal in Iceland, Kristina and Mason wrapped up the day at Skúdafoss Waterfall.

When Bryan and Vi had their ceremony in Iceland, they started the day with Icelandic horses. Their AirBnB cabin was intimate, settled on a farm with chickens clucking around. We captured the first look at the shed with a turf-covered roof and beautiful horses.
No two vow renewals will ever be the same because no two couples are the same.
What is the best month to renew vows? Well, if you’re in Iceland and want the best shot to see the Aurora Borealis, you should have your Iceland vow renewal ceremony sometime between mid-August and late April.
Pro Travel Tip: Always check the aurora forecast and pack warm drinks for late-night Northern Lights chasing. Patience is the key. I use the Aurora Now app! Tracking the cloud coverage is important. The northern lights can only be seen on cloudless nights. You can check this Aurora forecast for an up-to-date radar of the clouds!

One of the most meaningful ways to approach a vow renewal is to center it around an experience you’ve always dreamed of sharing together. Instead of simply recreating your wedding day, imagine stepping into something that reflects who you are now! Like a quiet horseback ride through the mountains of Montana, just the two of you, with nothing but open land and time to reflect on how far you’ve come.
That’s exactly what Martha and Steven chose to do. Before their celebration, they spent a day adventuring on horseback in the mountains, soaking in the stillness and connection that brought them back to each other. Then, they shifted into a more traditional vow renewal, inviting their closest family and friends to celebrate with them through a heartfelt ceremony and cocktails in their favorite place. If you’re dreaming up your own experience, take inspiration from their story. You can read more about it in Martha & Steven’s full vow renewal in Montana! and start thinking less about what a vow renewal should look like, and more about what it could feel like.

When it comes to multiple adventure locations close together, Glacier National Park takes the cake. For Alyssa and Greg’s vow renewal, we started at Lake McDonald, and we veered off on one of the secluded pullouts. From there, we ventured out to the water’s end and found them a spot to share their marriage renewal vows. I gave them a respectful distance and watched as they shared, laughed, and cried. I used my 70-200mm lens for some of these pictures. This compressed the mountains, making them look that much bigger! These will be PERFECT photos for wall art!
After their recommitment ceremony, we had a spur-of-the-moment pit stop nearby for the rock photos. After, we explored Mission Mountain View Point.

Another option for couples in Glacier is to take the kayak out! Your vow renewal could take place kayaking across a calm Montana lake surrounded by towering mountain peaks. The water is glassy, the air feels crisp, and the timing could not have been better. Spend the afternoon exploring the lake, then we will take you somewhere romantic for sunset photos.
To add a little extra adventure, I recommend lantern photos. It is such a romantic ambiance!

If you and your spouse love boats, I highly recommend incorporating that for your vow renewal ideas! If you’re more of an enjoy-a-boat than an activity boater, pick up some champagne and charcuterie and bask in a beautiful day together. You can commit right on the boat as it slides across the water, or pull up to the shoreline, toes in the sand, saying you still do. Over in Lake Tahoe, California, we have had a great experience with the Wild Goose II where our couple enjoys their day on the back of the boat, sun-soaked and happy.

Now, if you’re an adrenaline-seeking couple. We recommend Tahoe Waves Boat Rental, perfect for wakesurfers and wakeboarders. Grab a pizza and a couple of beers and have a renewal that is so you.
Whatever way you want to spend your day on the water, we will create a custom vendor list so you get exactly what you want.

If you’d rather be high in the sky than in the water, check out a helicopter adventure. We had a couple who opted for a limo, a helicopter, gorgeous views, ice cream, and a 2nd-day hike in Bozeman, Montana, proving that the only limitation to your adventurous vow renewal ideas are what you put on it.
If you’re considering a helicopter, include videography! When you’re high in the air, a video of you squeezing your partner’s hand and capturing the words is truly special.
One recommendation from our vow renewal ideas is to take Maverick Helicopters from Long Beach, California to Catalina, Island. The island, most famous for its Catalina Wine Mixer, is the go-to place for any kind of adventurer! There are great hikes, gorgeous waters for snorkeling, and an assortment of hotels, air BnBs, and camping. The best part? You can take the helicopter back to Long Beach after your renewal weekend, or you can pop back on a boat to San Pedro, Long Beach, or Dana Point. Overall, a helicopter is a really cool idea for anyone who loves new places, mountains, and experiencing new things.

If you want to ride in style for your vow renewal, we’ll make it happen! Whether that be a limo, dirt bike, 4×4, jeep, or classic car. Whatever you can dream up, we’ll provide the vendor list to make it happen!
For our adventurous couples who like flat lands, Sedona, Arizona ,and Moab, Utah should be on the renewal list. Sedona, AZ, is full of sunshine, vortexes, and desert magic. There are pink and orange cliffs, which create the dreamiest backdrop! The sunsets are every couple’s dream. If you love Spanish architecture, we’ll find the perfect photo spot in Tlaquepaque!

To add more adventure to your desert vow renewal ideas in a place like Moab, check out dirt bikes! Have your ceremony, then take things off-road and kick the adventure up a notch! Cue the dreamiest motion blur shots ever.
If a 4×4 is something you already love or something on your bucket list, we can make it happen! It’ll be a wild ride from start to finish. Including laughs, adrenaline rush, and next-level love! There are so many great secluded places we can find for your marriage vows when we’re exploring off the beaten path.
Everyone loves a passenger princess! If your idea is adventure and exploring without the work, consider renting a jeep with a sunroof AND a driver. You’ll be all cozy in the back seat or adventuring like a dog with your head out the window. Not worrying about driving. Also, if you’re in a brand new place, having a driver means you are getting someone who understands the terrain and can get you from one place to another quickly and safely. They also know the BEST local places. Another idea is also a limo! Pop some bubbles, put on some tunes, and soak up every moment with your partner.

Now, this is an idea for big animal lovers, explorers, and couples ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A safari day is structured around the animals, the light, and the heat. When building your vow renewal, we’ll factor in those elements with the moments that make your day special.
Whether your first look is with safari animals in the distance or the two of you wrapped in blankets watching the sunrise, we are starting the day with intentionality.
After going out on the safari, we can plan to come back to a romantic candlelit dinner to celebrate! Cue the wedding champagne pop. You toast, share stories from the day, and celebrate in whatever way feels like you. Maybe we play a first dance song on a speaker, and you sway together under a starry sky. No crowds, no pressure. Just the two of you, fully present in one of the most magical places on earth.
Honeybee Weddings customizes elopement timelines to each couple based on their unique vision, so whatever you want, we’ll make it happen!

We are currently booking vow renewals, and if it’s something you’ve been thinking about, let’s talk. Every couple we have had just gushes about how special it was to recommit. To really set aside time and lean into each other, show each other that this promise truly means forever.
